Anon,

I was going to contain it all in one post but decided to split it for easy reading. The weeklies often give us much better perspective.

I just posted the second part of the 1987 analysis a few minutes ago.

Corey, when the moves are big, as they were in 1987 and 2008, the weekly chart gives a better perspective. Then weekly charts looks more "reasonable" than the daily charts. With the daily charts, there is a tendency to speculate by saying, "It can't go any lower or higher." As you have mentioned, you will be looking at the weekly charts in your next post. Thanks for your great posts!

That's a thought. I could do that. My goal was to focus on the structure preceding the move but I wasn't trying to tie it into today's environment, other than to note pattern recognition of moving average structure.

I'll finish the weekly post and try to move it forward on a positive note.

Very interesting analysis. I was wondering if you would be doing one on the recovery that took place afterwards. Not that it would be directly applicable today, but perhaps it would provide insight into whether signs of recovery are appearing or if we should expect more downside risk.

Happy New Year!
