There's nothing ironic about countertrend reversals after 2pm. Here is a trading strategy to take advantage of it.

Kevin,

That's a discussion that could fill multiple posts!

The short of it is that you don't - you're trying to assess probabilities as the day develops.

Some things you can use as clues to form a hypothesis:

Large Opening Gap
Large surge in morning volume
News Related item expected/announced
Huge disparity in Breadth
Extreme readings in TICK or TRIN
Structure of moving averages

And some other clues. As the day develops, the picture starts to come into focus.

Corey,

Thanks for the great advice. I'm new at this and, I'm wondering, how do you know when it's a trend day, so that you can throw out all indicators etc?

Thanks, Kevin

Dominick,

Glad to hear! Thanks for sharing.

I try to keep it as simple and objective as possible, repeating the same set-ups across different days.

David,

Patience will save you in trading - it's not about any one particular trade, but about the series of trades and the strategies you use.

We might get a Wave 4 counter rally next week indeed but we'll need to break the Nov lows for the Elliott count to play itself out.

Thanks for the post Corey. The lesson provides great reinforcement. Also, it builds confidence to know that I am predominatly picking the same trade entries and exits that you are. Enjoy the weekend.

Corey,

Thank you for the post. I have been a patient puppy , i got caught flat footed as a bear and wasnt positioned short for this leg down. Patient as i didnt chase the market but today made up for it , i had a decent long order sitting on 755 :) I have held a little over the weekend in anticipation of a small continuation. Expecting a small continuation next week before we go screaming on down.
