Link: How Can I Learn to Trade?

Jun 27, 2007: 8:46 PM CST

I know it’s a question on everyone’s mind, especially if you are new to trading.

“How Can I learn how to Trade?!”  or something of the like.

Dr. Steenbarger provided a brief post with links to other resources to help you get started on your journey, or help give direction to current travelers.

He begins by stating:

trading is a performance skill, not unlike chess or baseball. That means that trading consists of component skills that must be practiced and refined over time. No amount of self-help psychology or trading seminars can substitute for screen time and the cultivation of skills related to pattern recognition, execution, and risk management.”

He proceeds to list four steps to begin your journey (see his post for full explanation):

  1. Start with a Framework
  2. Start with Observation
  3. Start with Simulation
  4. Start thinking like a Trader (and reading resources)

Keep it simple, write down your observations, and study simple, repetitive patterns in the market.

Check out Dr. Brett’s post and links to other blogs and resources.  It’s never too late to begin!
