Quick Sector Strength Grid to End October

Oct 29, 2013: 12:07 PM CST

With October rushing toward a close, let’s take a look at the recent Sector Strength and Weakness grid for the nine major AMEX Sector SPDR ETFs.

For additional perspective, see my prior update from October 19.

A quick update shows strength remaining in Consumer Discretionary (XLY), Industrials (XLI), Materials (XLB), Energy (XLE), and Technology (XLK).

When compared to the May 2013 market high, the only main sector to remain beneath the mid-year peak is the Utilities (XLU) which have clearly underperformed all other sectors.

Despite relative weakness, we see an upswing into Utilities from earlier in October.

Continue studying sector comparisons and always look beneath the sector (and of course the market) to the strongest stocks in the strongest sectors as key trading candidates, especially for swing traders.
